last day on Ko Phuket...

Sawasdee Kah! (That's "Hello" to you Kath!)

Hi All - thanks so much for all your comments on this blog! We love reading them! The times we live in are amazing that we can all communicate like this while so far away!

Kath, you asked how we find the Thai people. Before we traveled, someone told me that Thais are "the nicest people you'll ever meet...only nicer!" and we would have to say that we have found that to be completely true! The have the most lovely way of greeting people - it's called the "wai" - you place your palms together and slightly bow your head (as you can see in the picture up above).

Today, we took a Thai cooking class! We learned how to make a four course meal...a young papaya salad, a coconut milk soup, a yellow curry chicken dish, and a dessert made with water chestnuts and young coconut meat!?! (yes, the desert was odd...)

We've loved being at a resort, but are also excited to go to Bangkok to see the chaos and reality that is "urban Thailand." We fly to Bangkok tomorrow afternoon and are looking forward to a day and a half of sightseeing before we meet M on Sunday!

Our 4 year old, Davis, asked me a lot of questions about our hotel when I spoke with him this AM (your yesterday PM) so we posted a few pictures below of interesting things around our hotel. (Check out the giant snail I almost stepped on!)

Lastly, you can buy Lychees in a can in the Asian section of your grocery store. Try them! They kind of taste like pears with a little "bite" to them, I guess. An unpeeled lychee is reddish-green and hairy (see picture at the top!). You peel them like an orange. Inside they are white and fleshy, with a pit. VERY strange to look at and VERY yummy to eat!
Love you guys!
Amy and Carter
PS: Sam - I opened the sports section of the Bangkok Post (Thai newspaper published in English) and there was a whole article about Jon Lester's no-hitter! Can you believe that!?

Hey,

Glad to see the trip is going so well. I was worried at first until I realized (with some embarassment) that China and Thailand aren't like Mass. and New Hampshire :-) Looking forward to the next post.

Congrats again and continued safe travels!

Hi!

The excitement is building, I can't wait for the Bangkok portion of your experience. What an amazing trip already - but it's making my day at the Herbert Hoover Museum look pretty dull!

Can't wait for the next update(s), enjoy that beautiful place!!

Safe travels,
Kim

I have a sister-in-law who lives 45 minutes south of Bangkok with her hubby and 2 sons (they are also waiting to adopt there, but directly through the DSDW - and it's still a SLOW process!!!) and they affectionately refer to lychee as "Hairy Eyeballs". : )

I'm glad you're enjoying your trip so far... Bangkok is definitely another world altogether! And I agree... the Thai people ARE so courteous and wonderful. : )

It sounds like you guys are having a wonderful trip and the pictures are unreal. Had a great day with Lucy and Davis today. We went to Inglesby Farm to feed the animals. The ride was interesting because Lucy and Davis decided to pretend they were on a train the entire ride--Oh yes screaming and making train noises the whole way--Loved when I got into Boxford and it said 25 MPH and I really had to slow down and Davis's comment was that we were slowing down and coming into the station!!!!!!No, Adele just didn't want to get a speeding ticket! Davis and Lucy had a blast feeding the animals--Davis throwing the food and Lucy feeding the animals by hand--We went home they were even more excited because they got to eat lunch in the tent outside!! At the end of our short to them--4 hours-we drove Davis home and they did their Bye Game--What a great day for them.-- I told your Mom what a great day it was with the two of them. Enjoy your next couple of days and Luke could not believe how big the snail was. Adele

OK...we're all done with the vacation, the rock formations, the elephants, and the leeches.
Let's get to the girl.

Great posts. We're enjoying the trip.
